Sunscreen: how to choose the right one for your skin and use it correctly

Sunscreen is the single most effective daily step to protect your skin from sunburn, premature ageing and dark spots. But not every sunscreen fits every skin, and how you apply it matters as much as which one you choose.
What to look for on the label
- Broad spectrum: it must protect against both UVB rays (which burn) and UVA rays (which age the skin and cause pigmentation).
- SPF 30 or higher for daily use. Choose SPF 50 for fair or sensitive skin, outdoor activities, the beach, or skin prone to melasma.
- Mineral filters such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are well tolerated by sensitive skin.
TRU DERM Sun Screen SPF 50 offers very high broad-spectrum protection with zinc oxide, while TRU DERM Sun Screen SPF 30 combines titanium dioxide and zinc oxide for everyday protection.
Choosing by skin type
- Oily or acne-prone skin: a light, non-greasy texture.
- Dry skin: a creamier formula, applied over your moisturiser.
- Sensitive skin: mineral filters and fragrance-free formulas.
How to apply it correctly
- Apply 15–20 minutes before going out.
- Use enough: about two finger-lengths for the face and neck.
- Reapply every two hours, and after swimming or sweating.
- Do not forget the ears, neck, back of the hands and the hairline.
- Use it every day, even when it is cloudy or you are indoors near windows.
If your skin gets sunburned
Cool the skin, drink water and apply a soothing product. Deepanthen Lotion with 5% dexpanthenol helps calm and moisturise sun-stressed skin. See a doctor if you develop blisters, fever or severe pain.
